(Rain Date Sunday, August 18)
Each year, the National Women's Sailing Association promotes this day to foster the next generation of women sailors across the country. Kingston Sailing Club women skippers and crew coordinate with boat owners and HRMM sailing school instructors to offer a fun-filled day of learning and sharing the joys of sailing with local young women between the ages of nine and fourteen.
Participating boats will have a boat owner/woman skipper, an experienced woman sailor, an adult volunteer from a community organization, and two girls aboard. Smaller boats may have only one girl on board, while larger boats may be able to accommodate up to three. Dock space will be made available at HRMM between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM on August 17.
As KSC volunteers we have a unique opportunity to serve as sailing ambassadors and inspire a passion for sailing! As such we want to make sure we 1) keep everyone safe; 2) welcome everyone to have fun, be in the moment, and enjoy the beauty of the river and sailing; and 3) encourage the participants to try new things, experiencing the confidence that comes from being part of a crew and learning new skills.
If extra life jackets are available on your boat, please loan them to your AdventureSail participants and accompanying adults. If you do not have extras, life jackets can be borrowed from the HRMM Sailing School.
KSC volunteers should bring water bottles and snacks/lunch for themselves. We will be giving the girls AdventureSail string bags with snacks. If you are able to bring a gallon of water for refills, that would be helpful. A light breakfast will be available at 9:00 AM, lunch will be onboard, and ice cream will be provided to all after sailing.
Please plan on attending the orientation at 9:30 AM at the East Patio of the Wooden Boat School building, on the campus of the Hudson River Maritime Museum.
Please save the date and complete this participation survey (and the NWSA's volunteer waiver)
If you have any questions or would like to help support this event in other ways, please feel free to reach out to Shiri Dembovich at sdembovich@gmail.com.
